Urgent and Non-Urgent Hyperkalemia

This activity will address the some of the considerations that inform clinical judgments essential to the evaluation and management of hyperkalemia as encountered in the outpatient arena. Program content includes a review of the cellular mechanisms that normally ensure potassium homeostasis, how these are affected by RAAS inhibitors, hyperkalemic risk assessment based on clinical trials, and characteristics of the ideal, current and emerging oral ion exchangers.

Activity Spotlight

Management of Secondary Hyperparathyrodism in Chronic Kidney Disease

This activity will address the clinical challenge of preventing and treating SHPT in patients with CKD. Content will review pathophysiology and consequences of SHPT, and address modifiable causes and management goals for improved patient outcomes. The activity will examine the safety and efficacy of current treatment options, and will provide insight to recent clinical evidence for a novel peptide agonist of the calcium sensing receptor for the management of SHPT in patients with CKD.

CKD-MBD: State-of-the-Art Considerations for Optimal Outcomes

This knowledge-based activity will address the most recent developments in understanding and managing chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD). Expert faculty will discuss new insights regarding pathogenesis, along with best practice options for diagnosis and treatment.

Improving Global Outcomes in Patients with Hepatitis C Infection in Late Stage Chronic Kidney Disease

This knowledge-based activity will address the management of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in patients with advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD). Screening and treatment will be discussed. Clinical evidence for novel antivirals will also be included.

Expert faculty will also explore current and emerging strategies for the management of SHPT in CKD.

CME Program Mission Statement

The mission of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF) Continuing Medical Education Program is to provide education for academic as well as private practitioners in nephrology and other specialties/disciplines impacted by kidney disease. These education activities are offered to regional, national and international audiences. See More…

CME Program Accreditation

NKF has been granted Joint Accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide accredited continuing education for the healthcare team.

NKF is also accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) as a provider of continuing education for dieticians and socials workers. In addition, NKF will facilitate approval for advanced care practice nurses and family physicians through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Family Physicians respectively.
