This activity discusses the pathophysiology and clinical manifestations of chronic kidney disease-mineral and bone disorder (CKD-MBD). Evaluation and monitoring of CKD-MBD are addressed. Evidence-based best practices in CKD-MBD management are also reviewed.

Management of Hepatitis C in Late-Stage CKD Patients: Who, How, and When To Treat?

This activity will focus on evidence-based data regarding the management of hepatitis C infection (HCV) in late-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD). It reviews the pathophysiology of HCV infection and its association with kidney failure. Evidence-based treatment strategies will be discussed and clinical evidence for emerging antivirals will be examined. Learners will be involved in an interactive program that will allow them to apply critical thinking skills to solve case study-based challenges in hyperkalemia.

Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is a frequently encountered complication in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). This activity provides the most recent understanding of the pathophysiologic connections between SHPT and CKD-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD).

The Challenge of Treating Iron Deficiency Anemia in Patients with Non-Dialysis-Chronic Kidney Disease (ND-CKD)

This activity will bring forward evidence-based data related to abnormalities in iron metabolism and the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in patients with ND-CKD. Program content includes a review of the physiology of iron metabolism and the pathophysiology of iron deficiency anemia.

CME Program Accreditation

NKF has been granted Joint Accreditation status by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide accredited continuing education for the healthcare team.

NKF is also accredited by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) as a provider of continuing education for dieticians and socials workers. In addition, NKF will facilitate approval for advanced care practice nurses and family physicians through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the American Academy of Family Physicians respectively.
