Deciphering the Advancing American Kidney Health Initiative’s Proposed Payment Models

On July 10, 2019, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order launching the Advancing American Kidney Health (AAKH) initiative, the most extensive effort to transform U.S. kidney care in fifty years. Under the banner of the AAKH initiative, the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI) has introduced two payment models, one mandatory, the ESRD Treatment Choices (ETC) Model, and one voluntary, Kidney Care Choices (KCC). These payment models are intended to realign incentives away from in-center dialysis in favor of better care for patients with CKD 4 and 5, home dialysis modalities, and transplantation. This webinar series will describe the features of the proposed payment models and help nephrologists understand the implications for practices. The first and second webinars in the series will focus on the voluntary models, Kidney Care Choices (KCC). The third will clarify how KCC and the proposed ESRD Treatment Choices (ETC) model interact with one another.
