Dialysis Treatment Options Education

This activity will discuss treatment options education. The learner will look at the history, what the current state of options utilization is, as well as the outcomes of education. Methods to provide and topics to include in this education will be discussed as  well. The learner will be provided with techniques to maximize effectiveness and resources to help provide CKD education.  

Learning Objectives: 

After participation in this activity, learners will be better able to:

  • Identify a component of a comprehensive treatment options education program utilized to engage patients in treatment choice
  • List three techniques CKD patient educators may incorporate in education sessions to enhance learner retention of provided information
  • Describe two published outcomes from CKD patient attendance of a treatment options education program

Accreditation/Designation of Credit Statements:

The National Kidney Foundation is accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.

Nurse and Dialysis Technician

Awarded 1.5 contact hours of continuing nursing education (includes 0.0 contact hours in the area of pharmacology).

Method of Participation:

Learners will review the materials on accreditation information, target audience, learning objectives, and disclosure information; participate in the entire self-study consisting of slides and audio; and complete the post-test (minimum score of 70% required; learners will only have 3 attempts to pass the post-test) and evaluation to successfully earn credit. The estimated time for completion is 1.5 hours.
